Bioactive Molecules

As chemists with experience in synthesis of important compounds against malaria, cancer and botulinum neurotoxin A, we believe that amongst our compounds ‘sitting on shelves’ and newly synthesized ones, that were not designed as antibiotics primarily, there is an interesting diversity to be screened for antimicrobial activity. The threat of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and fungi continues to rise, but the number of new treatments available has flatlined. Therefore, we carry out initial screen to test the potency of pure compounds against key ESKAPE bacterial pathogens Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, as well as fungal pathogens Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. krusei.
